ACTIVITY TOURISM FORUM MEETS IN FERMANAGH

8 March 2007

The third meeting of the Activity Tourism Forum took place today (8th March) at the Share Centre, Fermanagh. The Forum was set up by the Northern Ireland Tourist Board (NITB) and the Countryside Access and Activities Network (CAAN) to look at key issues surrounding product development and the promotion of activity tourism in Northern Ireland.

Willie Lougheed, Activity Tourism Manager at NITB said, ” As tourism grows, destinations are always looking for ways to differentiate themselves whilst also appealing to the growing, and discerning, activity market. Activity Tourism has become one of these drivers of growth for many destinations, engaging and motivating visitors. This is extremely relevant to Fermanagh with the wealth of activities available to visitors.

”This is also why NITB has selected activity tourism as one of its 5 Winning Themes which were identified to generate competitive advantage for Northern Ireland.”

Other representatives on the Forum included Regional Tourism Partners and activity operators from across Northern Ireland. Activity tourism includes areas such as walking, cycling, equestrian, water-sports, multi-activity and air sports.
