The Northern Ireland Tourist Board (NITB) has received a major “Excellence 4 Star Award” at a gala ceremony in Titanic Belfast.

NITB took this top accolade at the Ireland Excellence Awards, organised by the Centre for Competitiveness, for their commitment to improving NITB as an organisation and in recognition for their continued participation in Project Excellence.

There are various levels of recognition throughout the improvement process within this prestigious scheme and NITB has achieved the second highest award that can be attained in Ireland, placing NITB amongst some of the highest achieving organisations on the island.

Alan Clarke, NITB Chief Executive said “This is a significant achievement and a great boost for all the staff of NITB who have worked tirelessly to make Northern Ireland a place where people want to live, work, study and invest in.  This award reflects their hard work and is testament to their dedication to excellence.  I am proud to work for an organisation of such a high standard and look forward to our continued commitment to excellence in everything we do to deliver quality services and embed business improvement”.

Bob Barbour, CEO of the Centre of Competitiveness said today that, “NITB has been involved in this process since 2005 and has changed and evolved as an organisation over the last number of years. This is an acknowledgement of NITB’s effectiveness as a high calibre, delivery orientated organisation that commendably executes on key functions and in some areas has accomplished major success, the combined efforts of which has grown the image and reputation of NITB to unforeseen proportions”.

The award is a welcome addition to the many accolades achieved by NITB in the last year including Chartered Institute of Marketing Awards for the ni2012 ‘our time, our place’ campaign, numerous Digital Media Awards and Alan Clarkes recognition as “Hospitality Hero 2012” for his contribution to Northern Ireland’s tourism industry over the past 10 years.
