Leo Johnson, brother of London Lord Mayor, endorses Belfast as positive and creative
Events industry professionals from across Northern Ireland attended a Northern Ireland Tourist Board Events Masterclass this week at the Ramada Plaza, Belfast, aimed at supporting the events industry as it makes an increasing contribution to the tourism sector.
Over the past year Northern Ireland has proved its ability to host major international events, from MTV to the Irish Open, and the momentum continues into 2013 with the G8 summit, World Police and Fire Games and UK City of Culture.
Leo Johnson, brother of London Mayor Boris Johnson and co-founder of Sustainable Finance which advises over 50 global banks, was among a panel of speakers who shared their expertise with the 70 delegates.
Commenting on his participation in the event he said: “This is my first visit to Belfast and I have been overwhelmed by the friendliness, the positive vibe and the creativity of the place. Belfast still feels like an undiscovered gem, edgy in a good way, somewhere that is true to itself. I will be spreading the word on my return to London. Get here now.”
Northern Ireland Tourist Board Events Manager Eddie Rowan said: “The critical mass of world-class events during 2012 helped reposition Northern Ireland as a welcoming and exciting global destination, a wonderful, fun place to visit and to stay. We want this to continue”.
“This masterclass will boost the ability of our local industry to create, improve or expand their own event and at the same time showcase our excellent heritage, culture, sporting and leisure opportunities to international, national and local audiences.”
Other speakers included William Higham, founder of The Next Big Thing and an authority in predicting consumer and brand trends, and Lisa Crampton of Crampton Sports who specialises in organising major motor sport events across the world.
