Addressing the audience, the Tourism Minister said: “Around the world, we have been presenting 2012 as Northern Ireland’s ‘time to shine’ through the Our Time, Our Place campaign. This will not conclude at the end of December, as ni2012 has changed global perceptions and provided a platform to reposition Northern Ireland as a tourism destination.
“Next year will be another memorable year of events that will attract visitors from far and near. UK City of Culture will draw hundreds of thousands of visitors and in addition, Northern Ireland will also host the World Police and Fire Games in 2013, and the recently announced G8 Summit in County Fermanagh will put Northern Ireland firmly in the global spotlight once again.
Arlene Foster continued: “The Republic of Ireland, of course, is a vitally important marketplace for us, and we want to encourage people to enjoy and discover some of the must-visit, great value destinations that are not far from home. Events such as this provide opportunities to highlight the many world class attractions and hidden gems that we have to offer, and we hope that it will not only encourage people to visit different areas of Northern Ireland but to return again.”
