The Licensing Order

The Licensing (Northern Ireland) Order 1996 ("the Order")

Under the Order, Articles 5(1) (c), (d) and (f) confirm that Hotels, Guest Houses and Conference Centres are premises which may be licensed for the retail sale of alcohol. Your solicitor can provide you with information in relation to the process of obtaining/renewing a liquor license.

One of the requirements for the above premises to obtain a liquor licence is a certificate/ licensing letter from NITB. Existing certified tourist accommodation premises should speak to their Quality & Standards Officer about obtaining a licence. New premises must make an application to NITB, see Start-up Guides. The process for obtaining a liquor licence for a Conference Centre is attached (Conference Centre Information). If you wish to apply online, please visit www.nitb.com/forms.

For other premises wishing to obtain a liquor licence, eg restaurants, please contact your solicitor. You may also wish to contact the Federation of Retail Licensed Trade (FRLT).
