Ministerial Initiative
The Giant’s Causeway, Antrim and Causeway Coast Signature Project constitutes the ministerial initiative launched in April 2003 by the then DETI minister centred on a three stranded solution to develop tourism within the Causeway Coast and Glens region.

- Causeway Coast and Glens Tourism Masterplan Plan 2004-2013
- Visitor Facilities developed at the Giant’s Causeway site
- World Heritage Site (WHS) Giant’s Causeway, Management Plan
Strategic Context
The Ministerial initiative aims to provide sustainable tourism within the entire region. It is also a key element in delivering Northern Ireland’s Strategic Framework for Action 2004-2008 (available at www.nitb.com ) which aims to competitively position NI and develop a world class visitor experience.
The SFA sets out ten programme areas including the development of Signature Projects to deliver international stand out for Northern Ireland. The Giant’s Causeway, Antrim & Causeway Coast Signature has been identified as one such project.
The Masterplan is co-ordinated by NITB on behalf of DETI and identifies a projected overall cost in the region of £50m over a period of ten years. A budget has not been aligned and therefore the rate of progress of implementation will therefore clearly be dependent on the level of funding secured by stakeholders.
