Activity Tourism in Northern Ireland is estimated to be worth £100million The activity industry has grown significantly since 1998 and today there are 214  private sector operators offering 42 activities.

NI has the potential to become a significant destination for outdoor activities. Activities support the Tourism Strategy for Northern Ireland by making better use of our natural resources and NITB’s corporate plan by delivering quality visitor experiences. It is a young and vibrant industry representing a confident NI.

Activity tourism is delivered through a service level agreement with Outdoor Recreation Northern Ireland who is responsible for industry engagement and development of activity specific websites.

In terms of activity product priorities, the current focus is on adventure, walking, mountain biking, cycling and canoeing.

  • Forest Study ReportThis study was commissioned by NITB and Forest Service with the purpose of gathering and analysing tourism information and providing evidence-based proposals for tourism development in Northern Ireland’s forests. This study has helped to demonstrate the benefits of forests and identifies opportunities to realise the tourism potential through forest plans that will enhance the visitor experience and maximise economic benefits.
