NITB’s Senior Management Team is responsible for deciding the strategic direction of the organisation to ensure the aims and objectives of the Corporate and Operating Plans are achieved. 

The Senior Management Team comprises of five Directors who each have responsibility for an organisational division, the Chief Operating Officer and the Chief Executive.

Senior Management Team - Alan Clarke (Chief Executive)

Alan Clarke - Chief Executive


Alan Clarke was appointed Chief Executive of the Northern Ireland Tourist Board in September 2001 and has over forty years’ experience in the tourism industry. Prior to his current role Alan worked for eleven years in Scotland as Director of Marketing for Edinburgh and Lothians Tourist Board and latterly as Chief Executive of Aberdeen and Grampian Tourist Board.

Since 2001 Alan has steered NITB and tourism through a period of change and £300 million investment by the public and private sector. This has included the ni2012 Our Time Our Place campaign, opening of Titanic Belfast and Causeway visitor centre, NITB support to the G8, World Police and Fire Games, UK City of Culture and launch of a significant number of additional new tourism facilities, attractions and events.  Recognised as a forward-thinking industry leader Alan was recently awarded an Honorary Fellowship by Belfast Metropolitan College for his outstanding contribution to the local tourism economy.

Alan spent part of his early career at the Northern Ireland Tourist Board followed by appointments in Wales and Devon. A graduate of the University of Ulster and Scottish Hotel School, he is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Marketing, Fellow of the Institute of Direct Marketing and a member of the CBI Council for Northern Ireland.

Senior Management Team - Kathryn Thompson (Chief Operating Officer)

Kathryn Thomson - Chief Operating Officer

Kathryn Thomson was appointed Chief Operating Officer in December 2007 following three years as Director of Finance & Business Planning at NITB.  Overseeing the Corporate Development and Organisational Development Directorates her key role is to build an effective organisation that both supports and delivers for the tourism sector in Northern Ireland.  Working closely with the Chief Executive this includes strategy development, corporate engagement, governance and operational effectiveness.  Kathryn holds a BCom (Hons) degree in Business Studies from the University of Edinburgh, completed her accountancy training at PriceWaterhouseCoopers and has a professional qualification as a Chartered Accountant with the Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy (CIPFA).  Prior to joining NITB Kathryn worked in the senior finance team within NHS Greater Glasgow, primarily involved in business and financial planning to influence strategic decision making.

Senior Management Team - Susie McCullough (Director of Marketing & Events)

Susie McCullough - Director of Business Support & Events

Susie joined NITB in September 2009 as Director of Marketing and Events. Susie’s previous experience includes working as Director of Marketing with Belfast Visitor and Convention Bureau, where she was responsible for the national and international marketing of Belfast as a leisure and business tourist destination. During her time at BVCB she was Chair of the Marketing Sub Committee for the highly successful Tall Ships Atlantic Challenge. Prior to this, Susie spent four years as Director of External Affairs at the Laganside Corporation where she was responsible for communications and marketing including the development of events. She has also held positions in two local authorities and Tourism Ireland with responsibility for tourism development and promotion.

Aine Kearney - Director of Product Development

Aine was appointed as Director of Product Development in February 2012 following four years within NITB, of which three years was as Titanic Signature Project Manager. Her role at NITB includes overseeing financial assistance programmes, delivery of tail end signature projects; and the facilitation/support in the development of local area tourism/destination plans. Aine has over 12 years experience in business development, product development and marketing roles across numerous sectors including construction, manufacturing, hospitality and tourism within Northern Ireland, the USA and Australia. Aine is a graduate of the University of Ulster with a BA (Hons) degree in Business Studies and a Diploma in Industrial Studies.

Senior Management Team - Louise Kearney (Director of Organisational Development & HR)

Louise Kearney - Director of Organisational Development and Human Resources

Louise's role involves change management, learning and development, industrial relations, human resources and industry skills development.  Louise has 17 years experience in HR, change management and consulting within the private sector across the manufacturing, retail, FMCG and the professional services sectors. Prior to joining NITB, Louise was a HR and change management consultant with PricewaterhouseCoopers.  She is a fellow of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development.
